Firm of Record is Substance Architecture

The devastating floods of 2008 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa brought water into the US Federal Courthouse at a level of 4’ above the first floor.  The building, listed on the National Historic Register, received significant damage from the flood waters. Once the water receded, work to mitigate damage and stabilize the historic finishes immediately began. The design team not only replaced all of the mechanical systems but renovated the public spaces to restore the historic finishes under an expediated schedule.
