Columbus Park, a well-loved and well-used park, is located on the southside of Des Moines, Iowa in a historically Italian-American neighborhood, close to downtown. Originally built in 1936, it was a former changing facility for a now-removed splash pool. The City of Des Moines desired to renovate the shelter into a rentable community space. Today, the shelter has been transformed into a year-round gathering space for up to 60 people, supplemented by an adjacent outdoor patio for use during seasonable weather.
