HARRIET STREET SOLAR FIELD
Des Moines, Iowa

These solar arrays provide renewable energy to two new City of Des Moines facilities- Animal Control and Greenhouse. They are sized to provide 110% of the annual electrical usage for both facilities. Panels are ballast-mounted to minimize disruption of the existing landfill cap. Ground covering includes a pollinator lawn and native seed mix made up of grass and flowering plants that attract dozens of at-risk species. This solar field is a prime example of the reuse of a decommissioned landfill for renewable energy.
